Bank description

Our North Devon habitat bank is mainly focused on a large area of lowland meadow enhancement. With the previous land mangers being environmentally focused this grassland had not received inputs for many years and already boasted a number of meadow indicator species making it a strong candidate for a grassland enhancement project. Another key feature of the bank includes a central watercourse that has had encroachment removed, the addition of sensitive riparian planting and a series of pools and dams created to hold back the water, which form a series of diverse pockets of habitat supporting an abundance of life. Where a short line of mature beech trees stand as an island within the meadow, what was once a historic hedgerow as been reformed from a native hedge mix to recreate another key wildlife corridor. This habitat bank can be found on the national register (BGS-221024001).
