South Hams Habitat Bank

South Hams Habitat Bank

LPA:

South Hams

NCA:

South Devon

Bank description

This exciting habitat bank sees a mosaic of habitats with pockets of differing types of scrub providing stepping stones within rolling meadows. At the valley floor the landscape turns into a floodplain wetland mosaic with an enhanced watercourse running through it. With a combination of mighty old oaks, mature hedges and plenty of new supplementary planting this habitat bank will offer a safe haven to the wildlife of south Devon. However, perhaps the most exciting part of this habitat bank is that a lot of the on-going management will be done through conservation grazing where small numbers of hardy cattle will browse and graze the ever changing vegetation.
